چکیده

Existing schemes for 3-D Magnetic Resonance (MR) images, such as block matching method and uniform meshbased scheme, are inadequate to model the motion field of MR sequence because deformation within a mesh element may not all be similar. We propose a scheme consisting of (a) content-based mesh generation using optic flow between two consecutive images (b) forward motion tracking (c) motion compensation using affine transformation and (d) context-based modeling. We also propose a simple scheme to overcome aperture problem at edges where an accurate estimation of motion vectors is not possible. By using context-based modeling, motion compensation yields a better estimate of the next frame and hence a lower entropy of the residue. The obtained average compression ratio of 4.3 is better than the values of 4, achieved by CALIC, and 3, by the existing uniform mesh-based interframe coding scheme.

Context-Based Interframe Coding Of MR Images

This paper presents a new lossless interframe coding scheme for Magnetic Resonance (MR) images. The existing schemes, like block matching method and uniform meshbased scheme, are inadeqaute to model the motion field of MR sequence. The above schemes use uniform mesh elements which may comprise multiple motions. We propose a scheme consisting of (a) content-based mesh generation (b) forward moti...

An Automated MR Image Segmentation System Using Multi-layer Perceptron Neural Network

Background: Brain tissue segmentation for delineation of 3D anatomical structures from magnetic resonance (MR) images can be used for neuro-degenerative disorders, characterizing morphological differences between subjects based on volumetric analysis of gray matter (GM), white matter (WM) and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), but only if the obtained segmentation results are correct. Due to image arti...

Generating the synthetic CT (sCT) and synthetic MR (sMR: sT1w/sT2w) images of the brain using atlas based method

Introduction: Radiation therapy planning (RTP) is one of the clinical applications in which both CT scan and MRI are used. MR and CT images are applied to determine the target volume and calculation of dose distribution, respectively. In addition, using two imaging modalities increases the department workload and cost. In this study, an algorithm was presented to create synthet...

Generating Synthetic Computed Tomography and Synthetic Magnetic Resonance (sMR: sT1w/sT2w) Images of the Brain Using Atlas-Based Method

Introduction: Nowadays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in combination with computed-tomography (CT) is increasingly being used in radiation therapy planning. MR and CT images are applied to determine the target volume and calculate dose distribution, respectively. Since the use of these two imaging modalities causes registration uncertainty and increases department w...
